# Workspaces

> Create focused spaces for teams, projects, and shared AI work.

A workspace keeps related chats, channels, canvases, agents, tasks, and knowledge together. Use one workspace for one
team, client, project, or long-running topic.

Your **organization** contains your people and workspaces. Direct messages also belong to the organization, so you can
message a teammate even when you are working in different workspaces.

## Organization or workspace?

* An **organization** is the outer account for a company or team. It owns membership, billing, and shared plan limits.
* A **workspace** is a focused area inside that organization. It owns its chats, channels, canvases, agents, tasks,
  members, and Workspace Context.

When you create an organization, Mantle also creates its shared default workspace. Everyone invited to the organization
gets access to that default workspace. Create more workspaces when a project needs different members, knowledge, or
access rules.

## Create an organization

Open the organization menu, choose **Create organization**, enter the team or company name, and select **Create**. You
can rename the new default workspace from its settings.

## Create a workspace

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the creation menu">Select the **+** beside the workspace selector.</Step>
  <Step title="Choose New Workspace">Enter a short name and, if useful, choose an icon.</Step>

  <Step title="Choose its visibility">
    Select **Public** if anyone in your organization should be able to find and join it. Select **Private** if only
    invited members should have access.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Start with a few broad workspaces. Create a new one when the members, knowledge, or access rules are meaningfully
  different.
</Tip>

## Invite people

Open the workspace menu and choose **Invite and manage members**. You can:

* add an existing member of your organization;
* send an email invitation;
* create an invitation link and choose when it expires.

Workspace roles are **Member**, **Workspace admin**, and **Owner**. Members can take part in the work. Admins can also
manage the workspace and its members. The owner has full control.

See [Members and permissions](/features/members-and-permissions) for a plain-language role guide.

## Add workspace context

Go to **Workspace settings → Context** to tell AI how to work in this workspace. You can add:

* instructions, such as writing style or company rules;
* reference files;
* selected canvases.

Instructions are considered in every AI conversation in the workspace. Mantle uses relevant parts of files and added
canvases when they help answer a question. Learn more in [Workspace knowledge](/features/workspace-knowledge).

## Keep the workspace tidy

* Create folders for related chats and channels.
* Pin work you return to often.
* Rename items so search results make sense later.
* Archive finished work instead of leaving it in the active list.
* Use search when you remember the content but not its location.

Workspace admins and owners can manage shared structure. A regular member can manage the chats they created.

## Switch or archive a workspace

Use the workspace switcher to move between projects. From the workspace menu, an owner or admin can edit settings,
manage members, or archive an inactive workspace.

Archiving removes the workspace from everyday use without treating its history like active work. Check access and
important exports before deleting anything permanently.

<Warning>
  A public workspace is public only inside your organization. A public share link is different: anyone who has that link
  may be able to view the shared chat or canvas. See [Sharing outside Mantle](/features/sharing).
